LO1 Proposal for Audio-Visual Promo

 Proposal:

OVERVIEW OF PRODUCT - Kim

The product our group is making would be a music video, with the song chosen being, ‘Friends in the corner’, making a narrative and performance hybrid, meaning our actors will be following a story line and the video and song will correlate with that, as well as showing multiple different actors involved with different skills that they may have. An example of different things our actors will be doing will be biking, skateboarding, running  and then different ways of transport that the actors may be doing in order to follow the storyline that we have decided for the narrative. The narrative for the music video will be following teenagers that are going to meet up and the video shows them traveling to the point they have chosen, but then reflects all the troubles that the teens go through.

TARGET AUDIENCE - Lily

The target audience for this product is most likely to be girls aged 13-25 however it will be suitable for all ages. It will gain viewing from a more niche audience as the artist we have chosen isn’t hugely known. We will work to ensure that our product will appeal to all cultures and ethnicities. It will likely bring in people from all over the world as it will be online so will be accessible from many different places. It will be aimed more towards social grades B, C and D. It will appeal to and be suitable for all sexualities. Because it is online it will be easily accessed by a large amount of people from many different locations and backgrounds. The video concept would appeal to a mainstream audience as it is something that most people have experienced and can relate to.

DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING METHODS - Kim

The music video will mostly be distributed through social media such as, YouTube where people are more likely to easily access the video as well as watch the video since youTube is more popular. The video will also then be free to publish since the video isn't being monetized, since the video is being done for educational purposes and not for profit. The video can also then be distributed online through different types of social media, making sure that the video can be accessed at all times and by everyone. For the marketing methods we would have to make sure that the clips we have made are edited well and run smoothly with the song, making sure that if the beat goes to fast pace then the screen will cut to different scenes at the same pace as well.  As well as making sure that the video is fitting for the target audience in order to engage with them and encourage them to watch it. The product should also be advertised through cross promotion, therefore meaning that the video would then be posted on things such as MTV as well as YouTube so that the video can be seen and accessed by people wanting to see it. It can also be promoted on different social media, them being: facebook, instagram and twitter, so that people who see it on social media, as well as people seeing clips from the video will also then encourage them to go and watch the video itself. Therefore it then increases the amount of viewers that the video will have as well as making it so that the video is then advertised to a wide audience, making it so that the video links are easily accessible by the people searching for the video.

PURPOSE,FORM AND GENRE - Georgia

The form of our audio-visual product that we are making is a 3-4 minute long music video. The purpose of our music video is to entertain and promote. The music video will promote our chosen artist/client which is Foxes and their song which is Friends In The Corner. It will promote as the audience will gain more interest in the music with a visual to accompany it and it also develops the artist’s brand. It’s purpose is also to entertain the target audience. The video will follow key conventions of its genre which is pop as it is a pop song to attract the target audience.

PROPOSED CONTENT - Georgia + Lily

In our music video, we will use the mise en scene elements of props for example mobile phones used by the actors when they are calling their friends up to meet in the beginning of the video. We will use an insert shot to show a close up on the call ringing on the mobile phones. Another production technique we will use is the non-continuity editing technique of split screens to show the actors picking up the call and all talking to each other. This relates to Andrew Goodwin’s second code of images on the screen matching the beat of the song, in our case on the beat of the song we will be splitting the screen up in the editing process. Another mise en scene element we will be utilising is the actors’ costumes.  As the actors are playing teenagers and are appealing to a young adult target audience they will be wearing more casual, trendy clothing for example jeans, jumpers/hoodies and trainers. This will make it relatable to the audience so they will be entertained. We will use the camerawork technique of medium and long shots to show off and make it able for the audience to see the actors’ costumes. A continuity editing technique of match on action shot of the actors switching when they are travelling down the street, either walking or cycling or on skates. During the lyrics “We could see it all through a careless lens”,  we will blur the video or film the actor wearing a camera around their neck to relate the lyrics to the video. This relates to Andrew Goodwin’s first code of A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals which illustrate, as the audience can see the affect/actual lyric in the video.

INSPIRATION - Amy

At first we focused on inspiration for the music video we will be creating. This will allow us to get initial ideas and what to focus on when creating our own video for our chosen song:

  •  Sweet lovin'

    • small amount of narrative.

    • Contain contortionists and other stunts on roller skates, bikes, etc

    • follows a woman going through the setting with the camera on a trolly.

    • The idea has influenced our inspiration for the music video as we like the narrative following the character down a similar setting. This will allow us to focus more on the character and the song.

  • A similar music video is Hide Away

    • This video follows the same woman down a street, however this features different performers rather than focusing on just one character. This will make the music video more entertaining as more elements are added to the video. After watching this video, we have also taken into consideration that we could include different people within the video so that not just one character is focused on.

  • woke up late

    • This particular music video has a particular narrative that fits the song's lyrics, which could be taken into consideration when filming and creating the choreography. This will allow a closer relationship with the characters and the song itself, which will be considered within the creation of our own music video.

RESOURCES AND PERSONNEL - Amy

Based on our knowledge on music video production there is a range of resources we will need within production. The biggest element in production would be the camera that we will be recording the video on and once everything needed is filmed we will be editing on various different editing software on apple macs. During film production we will be using different material, such as green screen and lighting elements so we will need to make sure that the equipment is available for the day that we will be filming. When organising the production, we will need to assign roles to the different people in our group. This will allow each person to be responsible for certain things whilst filming. For instance, someone needs to film and edit content, there will need to be someone that resources the material and sounds, someone will need to organise dates for when we will be filming as well as where we will be filming etc.
